Federal firefighters struggle to get disability benefits for job-related illness, forced to hew to an unreasonable burden of proof. A new bill in Congress would give federal firefighters the same presumptive protection enjoyed by state and local firefighters in California and dozens of other states.

The California fire service is asking all California firefighters and their families to honor our fallen on October 15th by participating — in person or online at the fire station — in the California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.

The presidents of California Professional Firefighters and the California Fire Chiefs Association have sent a joint letter to all California fire departments and firefighter union presidents announcing a Safety Stand Down for the October 15th California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony, encouraging all firefighters to participate in person at the ceremony or by watching in stations online.
