On Monday December 17th, electors gathered at the State Capitol in Sacramento, and in other capitals around the nation, to place the constitutionally required period at the end of the 2012 presidential election.
CPF President Lou Paulson joined 54 other select Californians to participate in the Electoral College. The quadrennial ceremonial event ratifies the result in all 50 state contests for president, formally polling “electors” on the presidential and vice-presidential results.
In California, as in every other state, the Electoral College is made up of one delegate for each congressional district, as well as two delegates representing the two U.S. senators. President Paulson served as a delegate representing the 23rd Congressional District.
“It’s an honor to be asked to participate in this historic tradition,” said Paulson.
The actual vote itself took place in the Assembly chambers at the Capitol. Individual ballots for president and vice president were distributed to the electors, who cast their votes for Barack Obama and Joseph Biden, representing the statewide result in the November presidential election.
The result from each state election is transmitted to Washington, where Congress will conduct a count and certify the election of Barack Obama and Joseph Biden to a second term as president and vice president.
