CAL FIRE Local 2881 and CAL FIRE are saddened to announce the line of duty death of Heavy Equipment Operator Braden Varney. Brother Varney died while fighting the Ferguson Fire near Yosemite.

On February 28th, 2018, leaders of IAFF chartered affiliates from the U.S. and Canada gathered in Washington, D.c. to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Association of Fire Fighters, celebrating the men and women who paved the way for improvements in the lives and working conditions of all professional firefighters for years to come.

The 2017 fire season underscores the critical importance of maintaining California's state-of-the-art mutual aid system.

The 2017 California Firefighters Memorial honors 31 fallen heroes, who join over 1,300 names enshrined on the Memorial Wall in Sacramento.

Massive mutual aid responses in California have become increasingly common, as the risk from wildfire, flooding and other natural disasters grows more ominous. In order to mitigate these threats, our firefighters need to be able to work together effectively without jurisdictional restrictions. Firefighters, families and grateful citizens will once again gather in Sacramento's Capitol Park for the solemn task of adding 31 new names to the California Firefighters Memorial.
