CAL FIRE Local 2881, CAL FIRE San Diego and the entire California fire service mourn the loss of Fire Apparatus Engineer Cory Iverson, who gave his life in the line of duty fighting the Thomas Fire near the community of Fillmore. 

The 2017 California Firefighters Memorial honors 31 fallen heroes, who join over 1,300 names enshrined on the Memorial Wall in Sacramento.

Massive mutual aid responses in California have become increasingly common, as the risk from wildfire, flooding and other natural disasters grows more ominous. In order to mitigate these threats, our firefighters need to be able to work together effectively without jurisdictional restrictions. The Garden Grove Fire Department and Garden Grove Firefighters, Local 2005 are saddened to announce the passing of Engineer Lester “Lee” Webster on October 11, following a long battle with job-related cancer.

In the closing hours before his deadline, Governor Jerry Brown signed into law several pieces of CPF-sponsored legislation that serve to protect an injured firefighter's disability retirement, develop a statewide firefighter pre-apprenticeship program and establish timely notification protocols for firefighters and EMS workers who are exposed to communicable diseases.

Firefighters, families and grateful citizens will once again gather in Sacramento's Capitol Park for the solemn task of adding 31 new names to the California Firefighters Memorial. The 2017 California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Watch the ceremony LIVE. 

Legislation that will put more than $300 million into wildfire response and prevention, forest protection and local mutual aid won bipartisan approval in the Legislature and, now, a signature from Gov. Jerry Brown.
