The 16th Annual California Firefighters Memorial Ceremony, held Saturday, September 29, 2018, recognized 37 California firefighters who have died in the line of duty.

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and Contra Costa County Firefighters Local 1230 are saddened to announce the death of Fire Captain Peter Aliotti in the line of duty.

The California Legislature adjourned August 31 after giving approval to every one of CPF's pro-firefighter legislative priorities. 

Fresno City Firefighters Local 753 is saddened to announce the passing of Fire Engineer Sandi Johanns following a battle with job-related cancer. Services for Sister Johanns will take place on August 25 at the Peoples Church in Fresno.

For a few weeks in early summer, California was ravaged by dozens of major fires that ravaged nearly 700,000 acres and took 11 lives. One of the fires became the largest in California history.

CAL FIRE Local 2881 and CAL FIRE are saddened to announce the line of duty death of Heavy Equipment Operator Braden Varney. Brother Varney died while fighting the Ferguson Fire near Yosemite.
