High-Stakes Fight to Protect Retirement Security -- A well-funded Ventura County ballot initiative, backed by outside interests including the Koch Brothers, has put the very concept of a secure retirement on trial.
The measure, ticketed for the November ballot, would eliminate all defined benefit pensions, including those providing for the survivors of fallen firefighters and law enforcement officers.
Proponents of the initiative have acknowledged that their effort, if successful, would be used as "a template for other counties" and their efforts to eliminate secure retirement.
